Recycling Center to Begin Accepting Residential Food Waste for Composting August 1st, 2022

Teton County Integrated Solid Waste and Recycling (ISWR) is excited to announce the Recycling Center will begin accepting residential food waste on August 1st, 2022. This service is available to residents only who are able to self-haul food waste to the Recycling Center. Please read below for guidelines, policy, and restrictions.

The residential composting program can accept food waste only. No stickers, rubber bands, paper products, compostable or biodegradable plates, cups, or service ware is accepted. Additionally, shellfish are not allowed. Shellfish includes but is not limited to the meat and shell/exoskeleton of: shrimp, lobster, clams, mussels, scallops, and oysters. Please see a comprehensive and printable guide here.

Food waste may be brought to the Recycling Center by residents between 9am-5pm Monday-Friday.  Please do not bring food waste outside of business hours as new Wildlife Feeding LDR’s caution against unattended wildlife attractants.  Food waste may be hauled in 5-gallon buckets or less and the use of a compostable liner or bag is permitted; ensure you are able to lift and dump your own compost. Food waste will be visually inspected for contaminates prior to being dumped, any non-food waste found will be returned or your load may be rejected.  Please bring compost within a 2-week period, prior to it decomposing.  The tip fee for residential food waste composting at the Recycling Center is a flat rate of $2.00 per container.

If you are a commercial food waste generator, please call ISWR to discuss our new commercial food waste hauling “Curb to Compost” program.   Commercial food waste or large residential volumes may still be self-hauled to the Food Waste Composting Facility located at the Transfer Station for composting, M-F 7am-3pm and Saturdays 9-1.

ISWR and its composting contractor, Terra Firma Organics, want to ensure the cleanest, highest quality end product. Please call 307-733-7678 or email rkiefer@tetoncountywy.gov with questions.
