During the 2018 yard waste event, approximately 164,000 pounds of yard waste were captured from the waste stream and composted locally. The success of this annual event is due to the combined efforts of a number of local organizations. Thanks to Teton County Integrated Solid Waste and Recycling, Terra Firma Organics, the Town of Jackson, Westbank Sanitation, Teton Trash Removal, and Ace Hardware.
The result of this multi-faceted collaboration is a week-long array of waste diversion and community improvement events and programs. Here are the details for the week’s events:
Pick up free compostable yard waste bags at the following locations beginning April 22nd:
Jackson Town Hall: 150 Pearl Avenue, 24/7 in breezeway;
Town of Jackson Public Works, 9am-5pm;
Recycling Center: 3270 S. Adams Canyon Drive, 24/7 in front of office; and,
Eco-Fair: Saturday, May 11, Snow King Ball Field, Teton County’s Road to Zero Waste Booth, 12 – 5 pm.
Fill these large, durable compostable yard waste bags with leaves, grass and twigs only.
No trash or dog poop! No amount of trash is accepted at the composting facility.
Town of Jackson Residents
Place yard waste bags (plastic bags will not be picked up) on the curb by 8 am Monday, May 13th. This will be a one day only yard waste curbside collection event. Other easy to empty reusable containers, such as totes and trash cans, may also be used for yard waste. Place larger limbs next to compostable bags – do not tie. Please note: The Rodeo Grounds is not a public drop off. For Spring Clean-Up, the rodeo grounds serve as a staging area for Town of Jackson Public Works crews only.
Teton County Residents
Deliver yard waste (loose, or in yard waste bags) free of charge to the Teton County Trash Transfer Station during Spring Clean-Up Week, May 6 – 11. Extended Spring Clean-Up hours at the Transfer Station will be Monday – Friday 8am-5pm and Saturday 9am-5pm. Deliver yard waste either loose, in paper bags or in other reusable containers. NO plastic bags, please!
Half-off Residential Electronic Waste
Residential electronics will be accepted at the Recycling Center during Spring Clean-Up Week for 20¢ per pound instead of 40¢. This is half-off the regular fee. No appointment necessary. Please deliver during business hours, Monday – Friday 9am-6pm.
Rotary Club Community Spring Clean-Up Day
Volunteer for the Community Spring Clean-Up on Saturday, May 11th. Sponsored by Rotary Club of Jackson Hole, All volunteers welcome. Dress appropriately for weather and bring gloves and sunscreen. Orange bags and vests will be provided. Breakfast will be offered, and all volunteers will receive a voucher for a free lunch at Eco-Fair.
