[ARCHIVED] Deputy Sheriff, Transportation/Court Security

Come work for Teton County Sheriff’s Office as a Patrol Deputy, Transportation/Court Security.  Facilitate the transportation of all in house detention center transports and coordinate with the Northwest Shuttle Program for prisoner transports through our region.  Provide security and/or transportation of mental hold (Title 25) cases and security for both Teton County Circuit Court and District Court as well as security for the judiciary, jurors, witnesses, attorneys, inmates and other users of the court house and perform any other duties assigned by the Court or the Sheriff.  Court Security Officers must attend all sessions of the court and maintain order and decorum; assist clerk of court with duties of opening and closing court sessions and makes in-court arrests.  Officers must operate and maintain security equipment for the court, such as X-Ray scanners, walk-through metal detectors, hand-held metal detectors, portable breath test units and security camera terminals. They enforce laws, ordinances, and court policies and procedures with tact and impartiality while exercising good judgment, flexibility, creativity, and sensitivity in response to changing situations and needs.

The starting annual salary for Court Security Officers is $54,167.  Salary for lateral (experienced) applicants will be determined after your experience and qualifications are examined and verified.  Benefits include health and dental insurance, Wyoming law enforcement retirement and life insurance as well as vacation, holiday, sick and comp time.  Employees get use of the Recreation Center and the Town/County exercise facility and access to bus and ski pass reductions.  Opportunities for advancement are available.  The position is mainly Monday through Friday, eight hour shifts, but would require some night and weekend work.  Successful applicants are employed on a probationary status for a period of one year and are asked to sign a two year commitment.

TCSO Application

The hiring process will occur on Tuesday, February 4, 2020.  The day will begin with a physical fitness assessment followed by a written exam.  See the application for benchmarks that must be met for the run, situps and pushups.  If successful in the above tests, you will be ranked based on your experience, performance in the physical fitness assessment, and test score on the written exam.  Top candidates will be scheduled for an oral interview to be conducted in the afternoon.  Applicants will receive additional information about the testing and interview once qualifications are verified.

Job Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Show proof of being 21 years of age and possess a valid driver’s license
  • Be a citizen of the United States
  • Pass the physical fitness assessment, written exam and oral interview
  • Complete a thorough background investigation
  • Submit to a polygraph examination, psychological evaluation and a medical exam
  • Ability to complete the Wyoming Law Enforcement Academy’s Peace Officer Basic
  • Must be able to successfully pass the court security field training program

Personnel without current Wyoming certification may transfer their certification if approved by POST.
