Appraisal Protest and Appeal Procedures
If you believe we have incorrectly appraised your property, you should contact us for an appointment to discuss your property.
An assessment appeal is not a complaint about higher taxes. It is an attempt to prove that your property`s estimated market value is inaccurate.
When you receive your assessment notice, read it for instructions about deadlines and filing procedures for appeal. If they are not clear, call the assessor`s office for information (307) 733-4960. A missed deadline or incorrect filing can cause an appeal to be dismissed. Property owners have the right to appeal the values of their property. The appeal MUST be filed within 30 days of the assessment date or postmark date of the assessment schedule (Wyoming Statute 39-13-109 (b)(i)).
The first step in an appeal is usually an informal meeting with someone in the Assessor`s office. This meeting can also be handled by telephone or mail.
A recent appraisal (less than 12 months old) of your own property may be good evidence of its value.
A property tax appeal form must be picked up at the Assessor's Office at 200 South Willow Street.
