CERT

CERT stands for Community Emergency Response Team. These are fellow citizens who have taken the time to go through a 24 hour course that teaches both disaster concepts and hands-on response skills. Topics covered include:
- Small fire suppression
- Light search and rescue
- Light extrication
- Basic disaster psychology
- Basic first aid
- Basic triage
- and more
You can learn more about the CERT program nationally here. If you would be interested in reviewing class material online, there is an independent study course available here. Be advised: completing the online course does not certify you to be a CERT member. You must go through the classroom instruction in order to be on a CERT team, but the online course will give you a great foundation on which to learn.
If you would be interested in participating in a CERT class, or feel that you have a group or organization that would be interested in helping their community during a disaster, contact Fire Inspector Brian Coe or Deputy Emergency Management Coordinator Rich Ochs for more information.
