Flat Creek Floodplain Revisions (updated Feb. 27, 2009)
New Floodplain Mapping for Flat Creek has been submitted to Teton County by FEMA. A number of properties are affected by the new mapping. Some properties have been removed from the 100-year floodplain and other properties are now shown within the 100-year floodplain.
How will this affect you? If you have a federally insured mortgage you will be required to purchase flood insurance if your residence or nonresidential structure is located within the Special Flood Hazard Area (the high risk area defined by the 100-year floodplain inundation area). If you are building a new structure or adding to an existing structure, you will be required to elevate your structure or addition one foot above the Base Flood Elevation (BFE).
The statutory 90-day Appeal period for FEMA’s Preliminary maps and study is scheduled to begin on March 11, 2009.
Please refer to the documents below for further information regarding the Appeal process.

Some of our future goals include the reduction of waste material at the Transfer Facility by accelerated efforts in Recycling. At present time approximately 24% of all County solid wastes are recycled, it is our goal to increase this to 50%. The long term benefits will be less land used for landfills, less environmental concerns and a significant saving in solid wastes disposal for County residents.
Teton County Landfill operates under permits issued by the DEQ, Department of Environmental Quality.
