2013 Paramedic Program

Paramedic Certification

Click Here to see the Paramedic Certification Announcement

There is an opportunity for Jackson Hole Fire/EMS to sponsor individuals through Paramedic training. Fire/EMS has utilized Weber State University’s distance learning program for the past 5 years to produce some of the best paramedics in the state of WY (this is probably mostly due to the caliber of our Fire/EMS members). The program is approximately 18 months in length and starts with the 2013 Fall Semester. Weber State has a good program, but it is not the only university offering a CAAHEP (CoAEMSP) accredited program. LCCC started a program just this January 2013 that will be an 11 month distance paramedic program. Fire/EMS members have also attended accelerated programs (6 month completion) in Denver and Portland. JEMS has listed the paramedic programs from around the country with CoAEMSP and CAAHEP accreditation. Up to $15,000 in tuition and approved expenses will be provided to members that are chosen to participate through the application process below.

Most paramedic programs will have mandatory prerequisites that can be attained locally through CWC or the College. Fire/EMS will not cover the expense of prerequisites. For the next 2 ½ years, the State of WY through the Fire Marshal’s Office has a grant that will cover tuition costs for volunteer firefighters (tuition must be from a Wyoming college).

Paramedic Application Process (Fire/EMS)

  1. Complete Prerequisites – Paramedic Only (Applicants can move forward to step 2, as long as completion of prerequisites will be prior to start of the paramedic program)
  2. Complete the Continuing Education Application Form CLICK HERE and Financial Aid Request Form CLICK HERE and turn in to the Battalion Chief of Training by March 4, 2013
  3. Interviews will be conducted by Fire/EMS to determine the best candidate(s)
  4. Gain acceptance into the Paramedic/EMT program (i.e. University application, entrance testing, etc.)
  5. Complete the program

Please feel free to contact me at bcoe@tetonwyo.org regarding the Paramedic training process.
