How to Deal with a Traffic Citation
If you have been issued a citation for a violation of Wyoming law, you MUST take some action by your Court date, which is indicated near the bottom of the citation. You have these options:
You may appear in person to answer the charge on the Court date indicated on your citation. Circuit Court is held in the TETON COUNTY COURTHOUSE at 180 South King Street in Jackson, on Tuesdays at 9:00 am.
If you do not wish to appear in person, your fine must be received on or before your Court date. You may pay your fine in person, by mail, or by Visa or Mastercard
To pay in person, come to the Circuit Court during normal business hours, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday, excluding holidays. Exact change, check or money order is required. Bring your pink copy of the citation with you.
To pay by mail, send check or money order payable to Circuit Court. DO NOT MAIL CASH! Enclose the pink copy of your citation and mail to Circuit Court, PO Box 2906, Jackson, WY 83001.
If you wish to contest the charge(s) (i.e., plead not guilty), you should notify the Court in writing at least one week before your scheduled Court date. Arrangements will be made to have the officer present for trial, which may or may not take place on your original Court date. While you are not required to give advance notice, failure to do so may result in your having to come back to Court a second time for trial. Please include a telephone number and mailing address so that we may notify you of all Court settings.
If you wish to change your Court date, your written request for a continuance must be submitted to the Court prior to the appearance date.
If the citation is a mandatory appearance (i.e., the MUST APPEAR box above your signature was checked by the issuing officer), you cannot handle the citation without a personal appearance. You might find it advantageous to contact a local attorney to represent you.
FAILURE TO TAKE ONE OF THE ABOVE ACTIONS BY YOUR COURT DATE MAY RESULT IN A WARRANT FOR YOUR ARREST AND/OR SUSPENSION OF YOUR DRIVING PRIVILEGES.
If you have questions after reading this notice, please read it again. If you still have questions, you may call the Court at (307) 733-7713.
