Men's Slowpitch Softball Rules

The men's slowpitch softball league plays by the 2008 A.S.A. rules with the following "hometown rules".

  1. Season starts: Rec - Monday, May 5th. Comp – Tuesday, May 6th.

  2. Rosters are due by 12:00 pm the day of your first game. Players can only be rostered on one team at a time. No one can play both rec. and comp.

  3. No more additions to rosters after July 1st, 2008.

  4. Starting times for the games are as follows:
    1st game: 6:15 - 7:15 p.m.
    2nd game: 7:30 - 8:30 p.m.
    3rd game: 8:45 – 9:45 p.m.
*no inning will start later than 1 hour and 10 minutes after the official starting time. Exception, a tie game will be played out up to two additional innings.

  5. Rainout policy: call the activity hotline for game information 739-6789. Do not call the parks and recreation office to see if your game is canceled. The parks and rec. dept. will decide by 4:00 p.m., if games are to be rained out. If the department hasn't canceled games by 4:00 p.m., teams must show up for their scheduled game and the plate umpire will make a decision of whether or not to hold the game. The parks and recreation dept. will call the manager before 4:00 p.m., if a game has been cancelled earlier in the day. If a game has been canceled or if you're rained out of a game, you have three weeks to reschedule it. If not, it's a forfeit. Check your game schedules for available dates and fields for make-up games. Times are the same as during the week. The home team is responsible for scheduling the make-up game and working the arrangements with the visiting team.

  6. Each team will start with a minimum of eight men on their roster and must finish a game with eight of their rostered members. You have ten slots to fill with men. Any slot not filled is an automatic out. Absent players will be placed at the end of the batting order. Any deviation of this rule will be a forfeit. If playing with eight, and fall behind by 20 runs or more at any time, game is over (mercy rule).

  7. Teams have the option to bat up to 16 players from their line up card. Teams must start and finish with the same number of players on their line up card. Any spots in the order left unfilled will result in an automatic out for each unfilled spot.

  8. If after four and a half innings, the home team is ahead by twelve runs or more, the game is officially over. Or, if either team is ahead by twelve or more runs after the 5th or 6th inning, the game is officially over.

  9. A team may hit only three home runs per game. A fourth home run, and following home runs are considered outs.

  10. All batters will start with a count of 1 ball and 1 strike in order to speed up the game. A foul ball counts as a strike.

  11. Managers will be required to exchange line-up cards with the umpire before the start of their game. The plate umpire must be notified of substitutions or reentries during the game.

  12. The umpire will supply the game balls. At completion of the game, the game ball will be given to the home team.

  13. Protest: in protesting a game, a manager must make a verbal protest to the plate umpire before the next pitch. Then you have two working days in which to submit a written protest to the parks and recreation department. A decision by the parks and recreation shall be made in accordance with A.S.A. rules.

  14. Please be courteous and let the opposing team and the parks and rec know if you will have to forfeit a game. If a team has three forfeits, they are done for the season.

  15. Players swearing on or around the softball parks will be warned by the umpire on the first offense and on the second offense, the offending player will be suspended from play for the balance of the game.

  16. There will be absolutely no drinking of alcohol on the Cow Pasture ball fields.

  17. Any player ejected from a game will be suspended for the next game. A player ejected 3 times in a season will be suspended for the remainder of the season. A player can appeal this suspension within 24 hours, or the next business day.

  18. Any player deliberately attempting to injure another player will be subject to disqualification ranging from one game to one calendar year or lifetime. Any other un-sportsmanlike behavior may result in disqualification.

  19. If the fire alarm, or any other medical emergency call out, goes off and leaves a team with nine men or less, the game will be resumed at the time of the interruption, or played as a rainout. This includes emt's/med personal.

  20. The minimum age for playing in this league is 18 years old.

  21. The umpire is responsible for turning out the lights.

  22. No pets of any kind are allowed within the playing fields. Dogs must be leashed within park boundaries.

  23. The winning team calls in the scores to the parks & recreation dept. at 733-5056 ext116. PLEASE DO SO AS SOON AS THE GAME ENDS!
