Reducing Human and Bear Conflicts
It is that time of year to start thinking about bears and working to reduce human and bear conflicts. This serves as a reminder that bear resistant trash containers are required in your neighborhood per the Teton County Land Development Regulations.
We ask that you ensure the latches on your containers are in good working order and are used. Should the latching device not work properly, please contact your provider as soon as possible as it will not deter a bear from getting a food reward and becoming conditioned. Also, it is requested that all trash be bagged. If you have surplus trash not fitting in your container on a regular basis, please contact your provider for other arrangements.
The standards were adopted in order to prevent and mitigate conflicts between humans and bears, thereby protecting our families, properties, and ultimately the bears. More information on the regulations and bear resistant trash containers is available here.
