PLANNING DIVISION
Comprehensive Planning The Planning & Development Division provides long range planning services for the community. The most significant embodiment of the County’s long range planning efforts is the Jackson/Teton County Comprehensive Plan, which was produced with the Town of Jackson and is adopted by both jurisdictions. The comprehensive plan guides the physical development of the community over a long period of time, generally five years or more. Our plan has been in effect since 1994. The plan guides development by voicing a vision of the future-describing both what qualities the community has that are important to retain and what improvements to the community’s quality of life that should be pursued. The Comprehensive Plan has ten chapters that begin with a statement of the community’s vision and then go on to address subjects such as community character, natural & scenic resources, affordable housing, commercial & resort development, transportation, and agricultural resources. Each of these chapters describes the issues with which the community is dealing, the goals and objectives the community intends to pursue, and the “implementation strategies” and recommendations for how to achieve the goals and objectives-the vision of the plan. Land Development Regulation All development in the County must comply with the County’s adopted Land Development Regulations. The Planning Section Staff review development proposals for compliance with the Land Development Regulations and good development practices. The Staff provides review information and recommendations to the Planning Commission and County Commissioners, for their review of development proposals that require a public hearing.
Planning Commission The Planning Commission consists of five people appointed by the Board of County Commissioners to review and recommend County actions on land development proposals that require a public hearing. The Planning Commission meets twice a month, on the second and fourth Monday, at 6:00 p.m. in the Board of County Commissioners Chambers. See the schedules and calendar section for changes in this regular schedule, for reasons such as holidays. The Building Division accepts residential and commercial building permit applications, routes them to the various departments for approval, reviews the building plans, issues the building permits, and collects the fees. All building inspections are scheduled and done by the Building Division. Small Wastewater (Septic) Applications and Grading and Erosion Control Applications are also accepted at the Building Division. The fees are collected at time of application and the permits are issued by the County Engineering Department.
Monthly building reports are issued by the Building Division and passed on to various agencies and interested individuals.
