UPDATE ON TRASH TRANSFER STATION IMROVEMENTS

Teton County's landfill project appeared on the SPET Ballot for the November 6th election. It was approved by the voters. The proposition provides funding for an improved landfill cap at the old Horsethief Canyon Landfill, as well as improvements to solid waste and composting facilities. Although waste has not been buried at Horsethief Canyon Landfill since 1989, groundwater contamination has been discovered at the site and the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality is requiring Teton County to construct an improved landfill cap and surface water diversion system to improve the condition of the goundwater under the site. Teton County Integrated Solid Waste and Recycling is in the early stages of planning this updated facility.

Where do Electronics Go?

Where do the Electronics Go?
Proper disposal and recycling of computers and electronics is top priority for Jackson Community Recycling - specifically - making sure that electronic waste is not shipped to third world countries for dismantling and recycling.

  • JCR sends e-waste to Electronic Recyclers International® (ERI) in Denver. ERI is the largest electronics recycler in North America. ERI specializes in the environmentally safe and socially responsible dismantling of electronic waste. ERI has the highest capacity and most technologically advanced e-waste shredding system in the world, providing its customers with a maximum economic benefit and maximum commodity return. 100% of all material sent to ERI is recycled into three main commodities: metals, plastics and glass.
  • ERI is a member of the Basel Action Network (BAN) - an international organization that monitors the international trade of electronic wastes. ERI has signed the BAN pledge which states, “We will not engage in the exporting or dumping of e-waste, or in the use of prison labor in our recycling processes.”
  • ERI tracks all e-waste entering its facilities through a unique bar code tracking system capable of locating e-waste at all stages from receiving reports, to reconciliation reports, to downstream vendors. This assures that all e-Waste received by ERI is 100% recycled and traceable. This "point to point" tracking method ensures that e-waste does not end up in the hands of other companies, local landfills, and is not illegally exported to other nations.
